Sowing the Seeds of Growth: H.E. Demeke Mekonnen Drives Grassroots Nutrition Through the Bounty of Basket Initiative
During his tenure as Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia, H.E. Demeke Mekonnen played a central executive role in launching and steering the nationwide Bounty of Basket initiative. He mobilized regional administrations and sectoral ministries to boost household production in dairy, poultry, apiculture, and livestock.
Through extensive field leadership and performance reviews across the country, he championed nutrition-sensitive agriculture at the grassroots level. He emphasized that agricultural growth must directly reduce childhood stunting and improve family nutrition.
Today, this foundational commitment continues to guide his advocacy as African Nutrition Champion and Founder of YADAM Foundation.
