Bridging Health and Nutrition: YADAM Foundation Empowers Cheki Community Through Integrated SRH and Family Planning Campaign
ANGOLOLA TERA, ETHIOPIA | March 13, 2026 — In a vital step toward improving maternal and child health outcomes, the YADAM Foundation, in collaboration with the Angolela Tera Woreda Health Office, successfully conducted an integrated Community Nutrition, Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), and Family Planning (FP) Awareness Campaign at Cheki Primary School.
The high-impact event reached 130 community members, providing essential, evidence-based guidance on the critical “First 1,000 Days” of life—a window of opportunity that determines a child’s lifelong health and potential.
Leadership from Within: Community Champions Take the Lead
The campaign was driven by seven newly trained Community SRH Champions, supported by YADAM technical staff and local Health Extension Workers. By putting local leaders at the forefront, the initiative successfully translated complex medical data into practical advice.
The sessions highlighted the direct link between family planning and nutritional security, demonstrating how spacing pregnancies allows mothers to maintain their own health while ensuring every child receives optimal nutrition and care during their most formative years.
Breaking Taboos: The Power of Open Dialogue
A centerpiece of the day was the plenary coffee session, a culturally resonant forum where participants shared personal health journeys. This open dialogue allowed YADAM experts to address deep-seated misconceptions head-on.
“We were able to clarify critical health facts, such as the reality that neural tube defects are linked to folic acid deficiency rather than modern contraceptives,” said a YADAM health representative. “By replacing fear with factual information, we are building the community trust necessary for long-term health transformation.”
The session also addressed practical challenges in exclusive breastfeeding and child growth, providing mothers with the technical support needed to navigate early childhood nutrition.
